Sonja Camden (Sunny), MSW Founder & Director
I am a social work professional with extensive experience as a small business owner serving those with disabilities to include client advocacy, employment, program coordination and education. In addition, social justice on behalf of marginalized groups and political action to advance diversity, equlity and inclusion lies at the heart of what inspires my continued work. Most importantly, however, I am a Christian, mother, grandmother, spouse, and a very concerned American.
Education and biography
Education
- Graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW - Magna Cum Laude) and Masters of Science in Social Work (MSSW).
- Completed specialized courses on mental health, vocational rehabilitation, grief, and political science.
- Participated in educational courses aimed at expanding knowledge in the field of community and administrative based social work practice.
Professional experience
As a parent of a special needs son, Matthew, I have over 30 years of personal and professional experience as a social worker & business owner in focused areas of social work disability services, advocacy, case management, policy development, Medicaid waivers, vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, job placement, staff training & development, and grief intervention. My practice currently includes administrative business consultant services for purposes of state vocational rehabilitation policy and procedure compliance. To secure federal and state funding, additional experience also involves dedicated political activism through the DNC and social media on behalf of democracy for minority groups and those with disabilities in need of specialized educational services, K-12 and beyond.
